Designed and manufactured in house, this bearing kit features a CNC machined billet aluminum adapter plate, heavy duty flange bearing, and CNC machined adapter sleeve to suit a multitude of popular Mustang steering shafts.
Our kit eliminates the problematic OEM plastic needle bearing that is housed in a rubber bushing. Over time, the rubber becomes soft, the bearing separates from the rubber, and/or the plastic wears out from years of use and heat. The OEM part is discontinued from Ford so, until now, you were left to pick between sloppy steering, getting a "better" one from a junkyard, or using the S197 version that still costs ~$160 from Ford.
When installing most aftermarket steering shafts, you're instructed to reuse the factory firewall bearing and RTV the OEM plastic sleeve to the new steering shaft. This sleeve, which gets worn thin over the years, isn't actually the correct size for the DD style shafts that are used for their product to begin with. Our kit eliminates the OEM plastic sleeve, which is replaced by a precisely machined aluminum unit. For Maximum Motorsports, Borgeson, and Flaming River shafts, we include a 3D printed plastic insert that seals off the DD shaft gaps to the engine bay; no more messy RTV!

*** '94, '95, and some early production '96 model year vehicles may require modification to the inner firewall sheetmetal layer to allow access to the top attachment bolt of our firewall bearing. Some minor profiling work may also be required to the stamped steel bearing flange.
