Improve Steering Response with our Solid Steering Shaft Kit!
This kit is designed to replace the OEM steering shaft, starting at the interior U-joint at the base of the steering column and ending at the steering rack. These components eliminate all the rubber from the steering shaft assembly and allow for use of the OEM upper column, which retains steering wheel tilt functions and use of OEM turn signal stalks.
Another added benefit is the slim profile, so clearance around aftermarket headers may be improved. Installation is a bolt-on affair - no cutting or drilling is required. Additionally, all U-joint connections are secured by set screws, allowing for future service or replacement compared to competitor units which have their u-joints welded in place. For extra security, our steering shaft components are machined with set screw retaining grooves to ensure a positive connection between U-joints and shaft components.
While the Detroit Drifting Co. steering shaft kit may come at a slightly higher price tag than our competitors, it is important to note that our steering shaft kit includes a solid firewall bearing by default, compared to competitor units that rely on the factory plastic/rubber unit, which is another known weak point in the Mustang steering system. This saves you time and money in the long run!
***Optional: Heavy Duty Slip Joint
Our proprietary splined slip joint provides added durability over DD (double d) style slip shafts which can develop play over extended heavy use. Compared to the DD style male/female interface, our multi-spline interface creates significantly more contact area between the male and female components, spreading the radial loads seen by the steering shaft around a much larger surface area as well. The slip joint allows for easy installation and adds a layer of safety in the event of a hard crash by allowing the steering shaft the ability to collapse by about 1-1/2".
